Chardonnay is arguably the most popular style of wine in the world. It’s become so incredibly popular that the name has punctuated many different parts of our lives, to the point where even people are being called Chardonnay these days. It’s generally a very common style of wine, that doesn’t require huge amounts of money to buy. Freely available in both bars and restaurants, it is a popular choice for people looking for good drinking-wine.

One thing to note is that any white Burgundy wine is generally produced with Chardonnay grapes. This is just one of the many types of wine that uses 100% Chardonnay grapes to produce a number of different tastes. Chardonnay is clearly one of the most flexible styles of wine in the world, also being used in numerous different blend wines.

One of the main reasons that Chardonnay is so popular is primarily because the grape is such a staple of certain environments. It is incredibly simple to grow, and doesn’t require as much care and attention as some other varietals. The great thing about Chardonnay is that the grapes truly soak up everything about their surroundings, so even though the grape is generally the same, the taste can be totally different. Often you’ll find that Chardonnay wines have quite an acidic taste, and wine makers often balance this out with other flavors. The velvet-style texture that Chardonnay has is also primarily down to the high volumes of glycerine in the grape. From heavily oaked wines, to wines that have been stored in steel barrels, you can find a variety of different Chardonnays almost anywhere in the world. The grape is used in some of the more expensive styles of wine, including Champagne and Chablis, so whilst some may dismiss it as a “cheap” wine, it does have the potential to be used in a high class style.

French wines are generally unoaked, and don’t have the big flavor that some of the American wines have. For example, it has recently become very popular in California to have huge amounts of oak, which has put some critics off this style. This is especially true in the Napa Valley, but if you want to try something with a little more fruit, try a Santa Barbera wine.
