Gallery History
| Since 1997... The Carolina Artist Studio Gallery is located in a spacious facility in downtown Morehead City on the corner of South 8th and Evans Streets. Carolina Artist Studio Gallery is a non-profit co-operative which offers a diverse selection of original two and three dimensional art and a limited number of prints by over 20 North Carolina fine artists and craftsmen. The gallery was founded in 1997 by five women artists who met in a Watercolor painting class and discovered they enjoyed exchanging ideas and painting together. They threw around ideas of finding a place to paint and show their work to the public. They discovered the 800 Evans Street location; it was an inspiring space and with creative juices flowing, they envisioned opening the membership to other, who, like themselves, loved art and could invest time and money to make it work. They decided to serve the community by promoting the visual arts to all by giving classes, holding exhibits, and sponsoring special programs for adults and children. Our members continue to be generous with their time and talents, taking their expertise into the schools and after school programs. A "Gift Gallery" of North Carolina handicrafts is our newest addition. In September 2005 the gallery was badly damaged by Hurricane Ophelia, closing the gallery for six weeks; we re-opened on November 1st with a new and colorful look. The Carolina Artist Studio Gallery continues to attract out-of-town visitors and residents alike who are looking for local art. The biggest dividend of all has been sharing with others the joy and beauty that art brings into their lives. The gallery is open from 11am to 6pm Tuesday through Saturday, Sunday 1pm to 5pm.
